Jackie's Busy Birthday

Alternately Titled: I'm Really Excited That We Saved a Boatload of Money Today.

Today was a super busy day! First off I took the boys to the doctor--more on that later. Then we went to Target to get Jathan some church shoes (and a Barrel of Monkeys). When we got home we left almost immediately to go to Mellow Mushroom for Jackie's birthday. Yep, he's another year older today but don't worry, he hasn't shown any signs of growing up yet. = P

We had gotten a couple of gift certificates to Mellow Mushroom, one of our favorite pizza joints, through New Orleans Perks where you can get 1/2 price certificates to different restaurants. So
instead of spending $30, we spent $15 and filled up on some DELICIOUS cheesy garlic bread and the house special.

After Mellow Mushroom we went to Academy Sports so that Keeleigh could look around. She's been wanting a tent to play in and they had a 7x7 one on clearance for $16! She's so excited that she wanted to set in up on the breezeway and sleep in it tonight but I thought 45 degrees w
as a bit chilly to be camping out. Mean ol' Mama, I know!

Then we were off to Kohl's where Keeleigh was in bargain heaven. They had a huge clearance junior's section that was 70% off. She picked out several things to try on and ended up getting a some really cute pieces all for the same price that she paid for a single pair of pants yesterday at Old Navy. Her receipt said she saved a total of $78!

Jackie also found some great deals at Kohl's. He got some much needed pants and a couple of shirts and his receipt said he saved a total of $77! You've just gotta love Kohl's.

Yep, we shopped 'til Jathan and Ryland dropped but it was worth it.

I resisted the urge to go to Hobby Lobby mainly because it was getting late and we still had to travel all the way across the causeway (Did you know it was the world's longest bridge? I just learned that today!) but Keeleigh and I did hit Kirkland's where I finally bought the rooster lamp I've been thinking about buying forever. It was marked down to $10 and looks totally cute on my baker's rack.

So, even though it was Jackie's birthday, we all had a wonderful time and got some great goodies!

5 Reasons I Should Stay Off Facebook

1. TMI So, I remember the weirdest things but one brief conversation I had over 10 years ago stands out to me. It was high school and like all high school girls I had friends, enemies, and frienemies. One of my then-frienemies (we've grown up since then!) was friends with one of my enemies. Standing by the lockers one day, frienemy walks up and says in reference to enemy something like, "She shares too much information. Sometimes it's almost like, 'Hey, guys. I just farted.'" Of course, at the time I ate this up and laughed at her expense but over the years it's been a little reminder that more often than not I need to shut up. Just shut up. I've often been tempted (and have too often given in to the temptation) to over share. I think the Internet feels far safer than it really is. I need to remember that. 2. Friends...or Stalkers? Speaking of "friends", I have 321 of them. I know that number is much higher for many of you, but ...

The Story of Us

Do you like love stories? Who doesn't! Well, as Jackie and I prepare to celebrate our 7th anniversary tomorrow I'm ruminating on ours. It had an unexpected beginning and several surprising twists some of which threw me off so badly that I'm only now beginning to see how beautifully the Master Author has written it. I know it has had to have been in His hands because I seriously couldn't make some of this stuff up. Though Jackie and I didn't meet until 2004, but I will begin our story in 1998. That year I was 15 and pregnant. I suppose everyone thinks a baby will change your life to some degree but few people understand just to what degree that is. Because of Keeleigh a lot of things were different in my life. I traded in some of my freedom as a teenager for bottles and diapers. I remember I used to leave school and tell my friends, "Well, I'm off to play house." "Don't you wish you were just playing?" a friend asked. Really? I didn...

Combs Christmas Tour

Ryland says, "Welcome to our home!" Would you like to see all of our Christmas decorations? Check out our door decoration. We saw something like it at Trees and Trends and upon checking the price tag thought, "I could totally do that." = ) We think it looks great beside our sled, you know, just in case of snow! C'mon inside. Next to our door we plugged in a cute little tree that we got on our Thanksgiving trip to Alabama. It used to sit on our porch when we lived there. Now it hangs out next to our baker's rack where we have our one and only Nativity (I laughed to myself when Dr. Jackson said at church this Sunday that everyone has them all over the house.) We have more of a snowman collection around here. If you look in our kitchen you might notice our snowman rug. After you catch a load of our new Frosty fridge, that is! (Thank goodness for Pinterest!) There are reindeer prancing on our coffee table. Just past the co...
